Nightmare On Elm Street Nancy Has Never Seen "Elm Street" Remake And Doesn't Want To

Heather Langenkamp, the original Nancy from A Nightmare on Elm Street has never seen ‘Elm Street’ remake and has no plans to.

Seven years later, the original Nancy still refuses to watch someone else play the character.
Horror fans never agree on much of anything, but I think it’s pretty safe to consider it a universal opinion that Samuel Bayer’s 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street was, at the very least, a waste of potential. But what do the original stars think of the film? Well, I’m not sure we’ll ever get Heather Langenkamp’s thoughts on that one, as she has no plans on watching.
Speaking with Too Fab as part of a 30th anniversary Dream Warriors interview, Langenkamp revealed why she just doesn’t have any interest in seeing Bayer’s version of Craven’s classic:

I can’t let go of my own vision of Nightmare on Elm Street. I just don’t want to. I don’t want to see another person play Freddy Krueger. I don’t want to see scenes that we worked really hard on be reimagined. I respect their reason for doing it but I don’t want to have it in my imagination or my mind. Those memories are so precious to me. I was a teenager when I made that movie so it’s so formative. My friendship with Robert Englund is so important to me that I don’t need it.

That being said, Langenkamp did mention that it would be a dream come true to play Nancy one more time, and she even dug a little bit into how that could perhaps happen:

You see this in some of the other horror franchises, is that they’re taking the universes of these stories, all the elements of the story that was created and picking something that was over here, not the main thrust of the story and expanding upon it. There’s so much in the Nightmare on Elm Street realm that could still be explored. I would never say no to the option of doing something like that. It’s a great universe and it’s one of the most creative franchises. There’s more to be made, I’m sure.

Langenkamp, who will appear in the upcoming Hellraiser:, said that she’s looking to do more acting going forward, so I guess we should never say never.
But let’s not hold our breath either. The original Nancy, after all, is dead. Right?
